Troy University’s women’s tennis team achieved a decisive 7-0 win over Bethel in its home opener at the Lunsford Tennis Complex, improving its season record to 2-1.
The Trojans started strong by securing the doubles point. Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate won their match against Manuela Geraissati and Giada Meneguzzo with a score of 6-0. Hiba Heni and Emilia Namyslo then defeated Cami Barragan Canas and Claudia Gonzalez Pastrana, 6-1, to secure the doubles point for Troy.
In singles play, Troy players won all matches in straight sets. Sama Hindawy and Hiba Heni both recorded 6-0, 6-0 victories. Alexia Zarate dropped only one game, winning her match 6-1, 6-0. Leena Metwally secured a win with two sets of 6-1 each. Maria Guirguis overcame Cami Canas with scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Valeriia Avdeeva faced a closer contest but prevailed against Sofia Canto, winning 7-5, 6-4.
The team will next face Alabama A&M at home on Saturday, September 7, with play beginning at 1 p.m.
