The Troy women’s tennis team lost to Louisiana 4-0 on April 11, ending its last away match of the season. The Trojans now have an overall record of 11-7 and are 5-1 in conference play with one regular season match left before the conference tournament.

This result is important as it affects Troy’s standing going into the final stretch of the season and could influence their seeding for upcoming postseason play.

During doubles competition, Hiba Heni and Leena Metwally secured a win against Martina Della Gora and Rocio Navarro with a score of 6-2. However, Troy lost the other two doubles matches, resulting in Louisiana earning the doubles point.

In singles play, several matches were unfinished at the time the overall contest was decided. Valeriia Avdeeva won her first set against Safia Zenbi and led in the third set before their match was stopped. Leena Metwally also rallied to take her second set against Marilou Bressan and held a lead in their unfinished third set. Alexia Zarate narrowly won her first set over Ana Martinez Vaquero but did not finish as well.

The completed singles matches saw Angelique Berrat defeat Maria Guirguis (1-6, 6-1, 6-2), Martina Della Gora beat Hiba Heni (6-0, 6-0), and Rocio Navarro top Emilia Namyslo (6-2, 6-1).

Troy will conclude its regular season at home against Georgia Southern on Saturday, April 18 at Lunsford Tennis Complex. The team looks ahead to regrouping for that matchup before entering conference tournament play.
