Troy University’s women’s tennis team secured a narrow 4-3 victory over Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. The match began with Troy claiming the doubles point after wins by Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate over Clelia Lombardi and Yuki Mizuguchi, 6-2, and Hiba Heni with Emilia Namyslo defeating Astigarraga Harper and Dana Baidaulet, 6-3.
Metwally continued her strong performance into singles play, winning against Baidaulet in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-3. Maria Guirguis added another point for Troy by overcoming Kaita Tuliakova in two sets, 6-2 and 7-5.
With the overall score tied at three points each, the outcome of the match depended on Sama Hindawy’s contest against Clelia Lombardi. Lombardi won the first set 6-4, but Hindawy came back to win the next two sets 7-5 and 6-2.
The Trojans are scheduled to play their home opener against Bethel on Friday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
