The Troy women’s golf team will participate in the Betsy Rawls Invitational at the University of Texas Golf Course on March 16 and 17, according to a March 15 announcement. The event is hosted by Texas and features a field that includes Arkansas, Boise State, BYU, Chattanooga, Harvard, Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Sam Houston, TCU, Texas and UTSA.
The tournament comes after Troy finished eighth at the Chris Banister Golf Classic last week. Constanza Quiroga led the Trojans with a 17th-place finish at 10-over par. She posted rounds of 1-over in both the first and second rounds. Quiroga has been a consistent performer for Troy this season with three rounds under par and her score counting toward the team total in 20 out of 21 rounds.
Katelynn Altese will make her spring debut at this event after competing in four of five tournaments during the fall season. Altese holds a 4.33 score versus par for the year. Among veteran players on the team, Laura Fangmeyer leads with a career stroke average of 75.47. Manya Saini has achieved two top-36 finishes this spring and led Troy at February’s Babs Steffens Invitational.
Victoria Stutts enters the tournament aiming to improve her numbers after posting a spring average of 79.83 compared to her career mark of 75.82. Stutts also accounts for two of Troy’s six under-par rounds this season.
Troy is scheduled to begin Monday’s shotgun start alongside Sam Houston, Lamar and Houston Christian from hole No. 13.
