Troy University’s women’s golf team advanced to fourth place after the second round of the Chris Bannister Golf Classic, held on March 9 in Gadsden, Alabama. The Trojans improved their score by six strokes from the opening day and now sit just one shot behind Longwood for third place.
The tournament is significant as it features a competitive field, with Tennessee leading by a wide margin. Troy’s performance was highlighted by strong rounds from Constanza Quiroga and Laura Fangmeyer, who both contributed to the team’s climb up the leaderboard.
Quiroga finished her round tied for fourth individually at two-over par after shooting a one-over 73 for the second consecutive day. She managed to recover from four straight bogeys early in her round by closing with birdies on her final two holes. Fangmeyer made a notable jump of 24 spots to tie for 33rd place after carding a 75 that included four birdies.
Other contributors included Manya Saini and Victoria Stutts, who each shot matching scores of 78 and are also tied for 33rd at twelve-over through two rounds. Mathilda Ringblom improved her position as well, moving into 67th place after recording a birdie on the par-3 second hole.
Across the field, scoring conditions proved challenging; while Troy improved its total, most teams saw higher scores in the second round compared to the first. The average score rose from 79.26 on opening day to 80.45 in Monday’s play.
Troy will compete alongside Longwood and Indiana State in Tuesday’s final round, beginning at 9:24 a.m.
