Troy University’s women’s basketball team will conclude its two-game series against Texas State at Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas, on Saturday, January 17. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip-off and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Trojans (14-3 overall, 5-1 Sun Belt Conference) currently sit fourth in the conference standings, just half a game behind Marshall, Georgia Southern, and Arkansas State. Texas State (7-9, 3-3 SBC) is tied for seventh place with Old Dominion.

In their most recent game, Troy defeated ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum, marking their 15th win in the last 16 games and their seventh road victory out of the last nine. Zay Dyer led Troy with 24 points and 13 rebounds against ULM. She now leads the conference in double-doubles with nine this season.

“Chanda Rigby sits six wins away from becoming the winningest coach in Troy history. She currently has 269, looking to pass Joyce Sorrell for the most at 274. She is also three wins from her 500th career victory, currently sitting at 497.”

When Troy and Texas State last met nine days ago at Trojan Arena, Troy secured its eleventh consecutive win over Texas State with an 84-49 result. In that game, the Trojans held the Bobcats to just under 29 percent shooting from the field and less than 15 percent from three-point range while outrebounding them by nearly thirty boards.

Texas State enters Saturday’s contest having split its last two games since facing Troy—beating Louisiana but losing to Southern Miss. The Bobcats are among the top teams in several defensive categories within the Sun Belt Conference: third in points allowed (62.9 per game), fifth in field goal percentage allowed (38.3), fourth in blocks (4.4), and sixth in turnovers forced (20.1). Kyra Anderson leads Texas State through six league games with averages of 13 points and nearly eight rebounds per contest.

The Trojans have not lost to Texas State since January 6, 2018; they are now on an eleven-game winning streak against this opponent and hold a record of fifteen wins to five losses all-time versus the Bobcats.

Troy leads multiple statistical categories within the conference this season—including assists per game (16.3), free throws made per game (15.1), rebound margin (+12.5), total rebounds per game (50.2), scoring margin (+17.7), and scoring average (85.6 points). The team is ranked sixth nationally among mid-major programs and holds first place among Sun Belt schools in NCAA Net Rankings at No.59.

Zay Dyer recently became Troy’s all-time Division-I leader in rebounds during a defensive play late in the second quarter of their previous meeting against Texas State; she is now twenty-two rebounds away from reaching one thousand career boards.

Other notable performances include Fortuna Ngnawo averaging over fifteen points per game on nearly forty-seven percent shooting—the fourth-highest mark among conference players—and Emani Jenkins leading both her team and ranking near the top nationally for three-point shooting accuracy.

The Trojans have claimed eight victories by margins of twenty or more points this season; eleven of their fourteen wins have been by double digits.

Troy’s dominance on offense was evident when they broke single-game program records for points scored (132), three-pointers made (20), and assists recorded (36) during a win over Oakwood earlier this year.

Head Coach Chanda Rigby stands close to setting new milestones as she approaches both her five-hundredth career win and becoming Troy’s all-time winningest women’s basketball coach.
