Troy University’s women’s basketball team is set to host South Alabama at Trojan Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m. The Trojans, with a record of 21-5 overall and 12-2 in Sun Belt Conference play, are currently tied for first place in the conference alongside Georgia Southern. Their opponents, the Jaguars from South Alabama, hold a 9-16 overall record and have struggled in conference play at 2-12.
The game will be available for viewing on ESPN+ and can be heard on the Troy Sports Radio Network. Live statistics will be provided through troytrojans.com/livestats.
Troy recently completed a successful run against Louisiana teams, securing four wins without a loss. Notably, head coach Chanda Rigby achieved her 275th win with Troy during this stretch, surpassing Joyce Sorrell as the winningest coach in program history. In that same victory over ULM, Zay Dyer set a new Division I single-game school record by collecting 25 rebounds.
Rigby’s tenure has seen consistent success; this season marks her tenth with at least 20 wins at Troy. Over the past three seasons alone, her teams have compiled a combined record of 67-31 with each season featuring more than 20 victories. Under Rigby’s leadership this year, the Trojans lead the Sun Belt Conference in several statistical categories: assists (15.9 per game), rebound margin (+13.1), defensive rebounds (31.7), offensive rebounds (18.5), total rebounds (50.3), scoring margin (+14.1) and points per game (83.4). Zay Dyer also leads the conference individually in double-doubles (18), total rebounds (334), defensive rebounds per game (8.2), offensive rebounds per game (4.7) and average rebounds per game (12.8).
The rivalry between Troy and South Alabama dates back to Troy’s inaugural season in 1975-76; since then, Troy has led the series with an overall record of 35-25 and holds a dominant home record of 21-7 against South Alabama.
South Alabama enters Wednesday’s matchup having lost eight consecutive games within league play and is looking to avoid finishing last in the standings after recent losses dropped their averages across key metrics such as points scored and shooting percentages since conference competition began.
“Zay Dyer set the Troy Division-I single-game rebound record with her 25th rebound over Louisiana,” according to program notes provided by Troy Athletics staff.
Other notable performances include Emani Jenkins setting school records for three-pointers made both in a single season and within individual games; Fortuna Ngnawo leading Troy’s scoring efforts while ranking among conference leaders for field goal percentage; Rachel Leggett joining teammates as active members of the school’s thousand-point club; and multiple players posting frequent double-doubles throughout recent contests.
Troy remains unbeaten when being outrebounded by league opponents this season—a streak contributing to their position atop national rebounding statistics over seven consecutive years.
The Trojans’ recent comeback victories—such as overcoming deficits greater than twenty points—have highlighted their resilience during both non-conference and league play.
Last season saw Troy reach the WNIT Championship game after making appearances in each of the previous two WNIT Fab Four rounds.
As they approach Wednesday’s contest against South Alabama, Troy continues its pursuit of another strong finish to regular-season play before postseason tournaments begin.
