Troy Track & Field secures three podium finishes at UAB Vulcan Invite

Troy University’s Track & Field team participated in its first meet of the year at the UAB Vulcan Invite, held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The team secured three podium finishes during the event.

The women’s 4×400 meter relay team, consisting of Aaliyah Murphy, Rachel Whyte, Zoe Smith, and Kady Schwietz, finished first with a time of 3:50.65. In individual events, Shanyah Washington placed second in the 200 meters with a time of 24.93 seconds. Rachel Whyte also earned third place in the 400 meters with a time of 57.44 seconds.

Two athletes achieved personal bests during the competition: Adaorah Okafor ran the 200 meters in 27.41 seconds and Jaime Preston completed the 400 meters in 1:00.21.

The Troy Trojans are scheduled to compete again next Friday at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.

Troy University’s baseball team lost an extra-inning game against New Orleans on April 14 after several lead changes and strong individual performances from Jimmy Janicki and others. Head Coach Skylar Meade commented on internal challenges facing the team as they prepare for their next series against Louisiana.
