Troy men’s tennis will play against Southern Miss in the Sun Belt Conference Championship quarterfinals on April 17 at the Rome Tennis Complex.
The match is important as it determines which team advances to the semifinals of the conference championship. Troy enters as the No. 2 seed with a record of 22-4 and is undefeated in conference play, while Southern Miss holds an 8-11 record.
Troy has achieved a fifteen-match winning streak this season. Sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto leads the Trojans in singles with a perfect 19-0 record. In doubles, sophomore Thiago Drozdowski and freshman Stephan Tavares Noale have posted an 11-3 mark, making them the team’s top doubles pair.
For Southern Miss, senior Olimjon Nabiev has recorded eight singles wins this season. The Golden Eagles’ leading doubles teams are seniors Pasawee Reansuwong and Shamirul Shahril at 5-7, and sophomore Dakotah Bobo with freshman Henry Lamchinniah at 5-5.
The match between Troy and Southern Miss is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. Central Time. The winner will advance to face either Georgia Southern or James Madison in Saturday’s semifinals, with the championship final set for Sunday afternoon.
