Troy University’s men’s tennis team secured two victories over West Alabama in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Trojans won the first match 4-0 and followed with a 6-1 win in the afternoon, improving their season record to 4-2.
In the morning session, Troy took an early lead by clinching the doubles point. Freshmen Ryusei Miyazato and Steph Tavares Noale won 6-4 on Court 1, while junior Luciano Alcocer and sophomore Thiago Drozdowski added a 6-2 victory on Court 3. Sophomore Hiiro Sakamoto contributed the first singles point for Troy, with Tavares Noale and freshman Ausias Martin Melo also securing wins.
During the afternoon match, Troy again claimed the doubles point. Although Afonso Portugal of West Alabama earned a singles win against senior Yeray Andres Pastor on Court 2, Troy captured victories in five other singles matches. Sakamoto clinched the overall match for Troy with a straight-set win.
The Trojans will travel to Georgia to face Kennesaw State at Betty Siegel Courts on Saturday at noon.
“We are proud of how our team performed today,” said head coach Rolando Vargas. “Our players showed focus and determination throughout both matches.”
