Troy University’s men’s basketball team ended 2025 with a strong offensive showing, defeating Texas State 100-80 at home. The Trojans improved their record to 9-5 overall and 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play.
Troy recorded season-best shooting numbers, hitting 61.4 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from three-point range. Cooper Campbell led the team with 19 points, six assists, and five steals. Thomas Dowd contributed a team-high 22 points, marking his third game this season scoring over 20 points.
Texas State (8-7, 1-2) was led by DJ Hall and Mark Drone, who scored 22 and 20 points respectively.
Both teams started the game efficiently on offense, combining for nine consecutive made shots in the first five minutes. Texas State held an early lead but Troy responded with a decisive 14-point run to take control of the game. Campbell made two of his four three-pointers during this stretch.
The Bobcats narrowed the gap late in the first half before Troy extended its advantage to carry a 45-33 lead into halftime. The Trojans maintained their lead throughout the second half, never trailing after halftime.
With just over two minutes left in regulation, Troy led by nine before closing out the game with an 11-point run to reach triple digits for only the second time in a Sun Belt contest since February 2017.
Head Coach Scott Cross said: “That was a great win. We knew it was going to be tough; Texas State is a gritty basketball team. We shot 61 percent against a good defensive team; our guys played really well. It was a great all-around win for our guys and gives us the opportunity to stay at the top of the league. We protected home court, and it sets us up for a big game on Saturday against South Alabama.”
Additional contributions came from Jerrell Bellamy and Kerrington Kiel off the bench; Bellamy had a season-high 13 points and seven rebounds while Kiel added nine points and three steals. Campbell also set a personal best with five steals.
This victory marks Troy’s fourth consecutive win—their longest streak of this season—and their third straight year starting conference play at least 2-0.
Troy will finish its current homestand against South Alabama on Saturday at Trojan Arena.
