Troy University’s men’s basketball team is set to play Old Dominion in Norfolk, Virginia, on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT. This marks the Trojans’ first visit to Old Dominion’s Chartway Arena.
The Trojans currently hold a 13-6 overall record and are 6-1 in Sun Belt Conference play. Their most recent game resulted in a 99-74 victory over Arkansas State, which gave them sole possession of first place in the conference standings. In that game, Troy scored 55 points in the second half and evened their season series with Arkansas State.
Troy has won three consecutive games and eight of its last nine contests. The team has scored more than 90 points nine times this season, which ties for 12th nationally and is the highest total in the Sun Belt Conference.
Victor Valdes contributed significantly against Arkansas State, recording 14 assists—a figure tied for third-most by a Troy player since the 2005–06 season. Across Division I basketball this year, only fifteen players have recorded at least fourteen assists in a single game. Valdes also achieved his first career double-double with 17 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks.
Jerrell Bellamy posted a career-high performance with 22 points on nine-of-eleven shooting and four dunks during Saturday’s win. Bellamy leads Troy with a field goal percentage of 60.8% this season.
Old Dominion enters Wednesday’s matchup with a record of 6-14 overall and is 3-5 in conference play after defeating App State last Thursday by two points. Jordan Battle led Old Dominion with twenty-five points in that contest.
Historically, Troy holds an undefeated record against Old Dominion at three wins and no losses.
The upcoming game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and can be heard via the Troy Sports Media Network.
Troy has recorded at least twenty-five assists in four games this season; only Michigan has accomplished this more often among Division I teams so far this year.
At the free throw line during Saturday’s win over Arkansas State, Troy made nineteen out of twenty-one attempts (90.5 percent), marking their best performance from the line this season. Both Jerrell Bellamy and Thomas Dowd went four-for-four on free throws.
Thomas Dowd ranks sixth nationally for total rebounds (193) and sixteenth for rebounds per game (10.1). He is one of eight Division I players averaging at least fifteen points and ten rebounds per game.
Old Dominion returns home after playing four consecutive road games, going two-and-two during that stretch. The Monarchs are three-and-five within conference play but have won four out of seven home games this season at Chartway Arena. Ketron Shaw leads Old Dominion offensively with an average of fifteen-point-three points per game; Jordan Battle (13.2), LJ Thomas (11.1), and Robert Davis Jr. (10.7) also average double-digit scoring figures for the Monarchs. Defensively, Old Dominion ranks third in the Sun Belt Conference at limiting opponents’ three-point shooting to thirty-two percent accuracy.
Following Wednesday’s contest against Old Dominion, Troy will conclude its week on Saturday with an away game versus Georgia Southern at 2 p.m., available to stream on ESPN+ or listen through the Troy Sports Media Network.
