Troy University’s men’s basketball team will conclude its six-game, two-week road trip with a matchup against Saint Francis on Wednesday. The game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Central Time at Alico Arena in Fort Myers, Florida, as part of the Coconut Hoops tournament’s consolation round.

The Trojans (4-4) come into the contest after losing to Toledo in their first game at Coconut Hoops. In that game, Troy recorded its lowest three-point shooting percentage of the season, making just five out of 28 attempts from beyond the arc. Theo Seng led Troy with 18 points, while Thomas Dowd contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds—his fourth double-double this season. Dowd is currently tied for eighth nationally in double-doubles and is approaching a career milestone with just seven rebounds needed to reach 500.

This meeting marks the first time Troy will face Saint Francis on the basketball court.

Thomas Dowd recently had a standout performance against San Diego State on November 18, where he scored 25 points and collected 19 rebounds. The rebound total was one shy of Troy’s Division I record set by Fred Spencer in 1996 and ties for fourth most in a Division I game this season. Dowd is among four players in Division I averaging at least 15 points and 11 rebounds per game at this point in the season.

Saint Francis enters Wednesday’s matchup with an 0-5 record under new head coach Luke McConnell. The Red Flash lost to Belmont on Monday by a score of 94-57. Skylar Wicks leads Saint Francis with an average of 18.6 points per game and has recorded two double-doubles so far this season.

Saint Francis is playing its final season as a Division I program before reclassifying to NCAA Division III, with full membership expected by the start of the 2028-29 academic year.

After completing their road trip on Wednesday, Troy will return home to play West Georgia next Monday at Trojan Arena, with tip-off set for 6 p.m., streaming live on ESPN+.

Scott Cross continues his tenure as head coach for Troy men’s basketball, now in his seventh season and holding a record of 107-91 during his time leading the program. Over the past four seasons, Troy has achieved more than twenty wins each year and finished last season at 23-11.

Troy’s current road stretch has covered approximately 5,500 miles and included four games in California before arriving in Fort Myers. The team seeks its second win during this trip after defeating San Diego State—preseason favorite for the Mountain West Conference—in double overtime last Tuesday.

Following Wednesday’s contest against Saint Francis, Troy will play five out of six games at home before January 7th; their only away game during that period will be against UAB on December 14th. They are aiming to avoid three consecutive losses—a streak they have not experienced since early February last year—and are adjusting after losing over sixty percent of last season’s scoring output due to roster changes. Cooper Campbell currently leads Troy’s scoring average at 17.4 points per game while Thomas Dowd contributes an average of nearly sixteen points along with a Sun Belt-leading eleven rebounds per contest.

“Scott Cross is in his seventh season at the helm of the Trojans, amassing a 107-91 record during his time at Troy. Over the last four seasons, Troy has won 20-plus games each year and finished 23-11 last season.”

“Troy squares off against Saint Francis in the consolation game of the Royal Palm Division at Coconut Hoops on Wednesday at 10 a.m. CT, from Florida Gulf Coast’s Alico Arena.”

“Troy wraps up its six game, fourteen-day road trip on Wednesday. The roughly 5,500-mile trip included four games in California before the Trojans traveled to Fort Myers. Troy is looking for its second win of the trip after defeating preseason Mountain West favorite San Diego State last Tuesday in double overtime.”

“Following Wednesday’s game, Troy will be away from home just one time before Jan.7.The stretch will see the Trojans play five games at home while making a trip to in-state opponent UAB on Dec.14.Troy will not play outside of Alabama again until its Jan .7game at Arkansas State.”

“Troy is looking to avoid three straight losses on Wednesday. The Trojans have not dropped three consecutive games since Jan .26 – Feb .2.during the2023season.”
