The Troy men’s golf team finished in fourth place at the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, which concluded on April 7 at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Pablo Gracia led the Trojans by shooting a final round score of 1-over and finishing the tournament 1-under par.
The result places Troy behind Catawba, Appalachian State, and Old Dominion. Catawba secured the team title with a total score of four-over par. Troy entered the final day in second place but recorded a team score of 12-over in Tuesday’s round after posting six-under in the second round.
Over three rounds, Troy led all teams with 177 pars and finished best on par-4 holes with a cumulative score of plus-19. Lawton Emblom and Gracia ranked first and second for most pars among individual players, recording 42 and 41 respectively. Gracia was even-par on par-4s (tied for second), while Lee Poppell was one-over (tied for fourth). Poppell was also noted as the only Trojan to record multiple birdies during Tuesday’s play.
In individual standings, Gracia tied for seventh place after completing his final round with seventeen pars and one bogey. Poppell finished tied for twenty-fourth place. Lawton Emblom, Thomas Crane, and Grant Yerger all tied for twenty-seventh at seven-over par; Haston Emblom tied for thirty-sixth; Pierce Becker ended tied for fiftieth.
The Trojans will conclude their regular season next week when they compete at the Mossy Oak Collegiate hosted by Mississippi State.
