Troy Baseball will face Florida A&M at Riddle-Pace Field on April 8, with the first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. The Trojans return to action after three days off following their series win over Arkansas State, which ended with a 6-4 comeback victory.
The matchup is significant as it offers Troy an opportunity to continue its momentum from the recent series. In the Arkansas State finale, Troy overcame a four-run deficit with a key four-run fifth inning, sparked by Blake Cavill’s two-run home run. Additional runs in the seventh secured what was Troy’s largest comeback of the season.
Left fielder Drew Nelson, who is set to start on the mound for Troy, led his team at the plate during that series with six hits in eleven at-bats, including two doubles and a triple. Cavill contributed three hits and four walks across the three games. Nelson is making his third appearance and first start as pitcher this season after recovering from a minor arm injury over winter break that had limited him to position-player duties during preseason activities. He leads Troy with a .333 batting average and shares the team lead in doubles.
Nelson made his pitching debut this season against Alabama State on March 17 and appeared again against them on March 31. Meanwhile, Cavill has been consistent offensively, currently holding a team-high streak of reaching base in twenty-one consecutive games and excelling in conference play.
Troy last played Florida A&M on March 25, securing a 7-4 win on the road behind multi-hit performances from several players including Nelson and Cavill. The Trojans hold an all-time record of thirty-nine wins and six losses against Florida A&M and are undefeated under head coach Skylar Meade when facing them.
