Troy baseball will end its road trip with a game against New Orleans on April 14. The matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Maestri Field, with the Trojans set to face the Privateers in a non-conference contest.
The Trojans recently secured a significant series win over Texas State, highlighted by a doubleheader sweep after dropping the series opener on a walk-off home run. In the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, Tommy Egan delivered a complete seven-inning performance with eight strikeouts, leading Troy to a 15-2 victory. Freshman catcher Caden Reeves hit his first two career home runs during that game.
In the series finale, Troy overcame an 11-7 deficit to win 12-11 in extra innings. Hayden Smith and Drew Nelson combined for five hitless innings out of the bullpen, while Josh Pyne provided key offense with three extra-base hits, including a go-ahead home run in the eleventh inning.
Freshman right-hander Matt Dill will start for Troy against New Orleans junior left-hander Bryson Goff. Dill has posted a 4.34 earned run average across his first eighteen and two-thirds collegiate innings this season, while Goff holds a 9.90 ERA through thirty innings pitched.
Troy’s recent offensive surge saw them record their best weekend at the plate this season against Texas State, hitting .345 as a team with thirty-nine hits and six home runs over three games. The Bobcats rank eighth nationally in home runs but were out-homered by Troy during their series.
Senior Drew Nelson contributed both on the mound and at bat last week for Troy. He pitched five hitless innings across two appearances and drove in six runs while batting .267. Third baseman Josh Pyne has been consistent offensively as well, collecting hits in twenty of his last twenty-one games and leading all active Division I players in career hits and doubles.
Historically, Troy leads its all-time series with New Orleans twenty-one wins to nine and holds a seven-to-two advantage on the road.
