Six businesses registered in cities in Coffee County during February

There were six businesses that registered in cities within Coffee County during February, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 14 percent less than the month before, when seven businesses were registered.

Elba registered the most businesses in Coffee County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
