There were 13 businesses registered in cities across Barbour County during February

There were 13 businesses that registered in cities within Barbour County during February, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 50 percent less than the month before, when 26 businesses were registered.

Eufaula registered the most businesses in Barbour County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
