ISCO Festival Brings Food, Fellowship and Entertainment to a Sell-out Crowd

The Troy University’s International Student Cultural Organization successfully brought students from several cultural backgrounds together by selling out of all 250 tickets for the annual ISCO Festival.

The purpose of the Festival is to bring together those from varying locations to experience culture as authentically as possible without leaving Troy, Alabama.

“The community that ISCO brings… is out pf this world,” said Brianna Moore, a junior English Education major who is also an active member of the ISCO, “Establishing those relationships… helps bring world peace,”

Students and staff came together to share food, music, and conversation for the evening.

“After I (came) here… I (made) friends — it feels like a miracle to me,” says Xiameng (Chloe) Zhang, a computer science major and from China.

Many organizations, as well as individuals, shared performances.

Tau Kappa Epsilon represented the United States with a Hercules lip sync. Ziawen Xia, a Chinese international student, performed Fisherman’s Song at Dusk on the Chinese Guzheng. A group of international students performed a K-Pop number for those to enjoy while trying several cultural dishes.

Appetizers, dinner, and desserts served included Italian Bruschetta, Spanish paella, and Algerian semolina cake.

At the end of the night, small trinkets from around the world were raffled off so that guests also had a piece of another country to take home with them.

ISCO hosts many events throughout the year and students can take part in the program. ISCO’s efforts have been to bring people together even for a single evening and has proven to create lasting friendships and memories.
