Medical Center Barbour Hospital: National Diabetes Awareness Month

It's National Diabetes Awareness Month! Did you know that roughly every 3 minutes, a person with diabetes has a limb amputated in the United States?

Diabetes is the single greatest factor in amputations—more than 60 percent of non-traumatic lower limb amputations happen in the diabetes population. An individual who has had an amputation has a worse chance of five-year survival than someone with coronary artery disease, breast cancer, and colorectal cancer. That's why it's so important to keep your diabetes under control with help from your primary care provider. They can refer you to a special wound care clinic- like our MCB Wound Care Clinic- for treatment for any chronic, non-healing wounds that may arise and will help you manage your diabetes so that you can avoid complications from arising in the first place!

Still searching for that perfect provider? Our MCB Family Care Clinics are always accepting new patients in all of our clinic locations! Simply call 334-688-7410 to make an appointment today!
