True freshman Constanza Quiroga led the Troy Trojans women’s golf team in the final round of The Ally at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi, finishing tied for 23rd place after shooting a 2-over 74. This marked the second time this fall that Quiroga has been Troy’s top performer. The Trojans finished 14th in their last event of the fall season.
Throughout the three rounds, Quiroga and teammate Victoria Stutts each recorded seven birdies, leading the team. Laura Fangmeyer contributed five birdies. Quiroga maintained consistent play, tying for sixth in the field with 38 pars and making only eight bogeys, the 18th fewest among competitors.
Quiroga started her final round on the 10th hole, making the turn at two over par. After a bogey on the first hole put her at three over, she responded with a birdie on the par-5 second hole, which was her only under-par score of the day. Stutts had five birdies in her round, including four over a five-hole stretch after the turn, and finished with a 3-over 75 for the second consecutive day, moving up three spots to tie for 67th.
Fangmeyer and Manya Saini both tied for 69th place, ending the week at 18-over par. Fangmeyer shot 6-over and Saini 5-over in the final round. Evelyn Tankersley closed with an 11-over 83, finishing in 81st place.
Florida, ranked 13th nationally, won the team title by five shots over No. 8 Arkansas. The field also included No. 7 Vanderbilt, No. 11 Ole Miss, and No. 12 Mississippi State. Troy completed the event at 52-over as a team but posted its best round of the tournament on Wednesday with a 16-over score.
The Trojans will return to competition in late February at the Babs Steffen Invitational.
