Troy University’s baseball team secured a doubleheader sweep against Texas State on April 11, clinching the series with an 11th-inning solo home run by third baseman Josh Pyne. The Trojans, now holding an even record of 18-18 overall and 8-7 in the Sun Belt Conference, powered through the day with six home runs across both games.

The victories are significant as they mark Troy’s first road doubleheader sweep since April 5, 2019, also against Texas State. The team demonstrated strong offensive and pitching performances throughout both games.

In game one, pitcher Tommy Egan threw a complete seven-inning game with eight strikeouts while allowing only four hits and two earned runs. Freshman catcher Caden Reeves hit his first two career home runs during this matchup. Additional contributions came from Nolan Book and Sean Darnell, who drove in multiple runs to support Troy’s offense. Blake Cavill added a three-run homer in the seventh inning as part of Troy’s tally of thirteen hits.

Game two saw both starting pitchers leave early amid a high-scoring contest. Aaron Piasecki and Jimmy Janicki each homered for Troy in the first inning while Jaquae Stewart hit three home runs for Texas State. The Trojans’ bullpen kept them competitive; Dylan Alonso stranded inherited runners late in the game and Hayden Smith pitched three perfect innings from the seventh through ninth frames.

Troy staged a comeback beginning in the seventh inning before tying it up in the ninth thanks to key singles from Houston Markham and Piasecki. In extra innings, Drew Nelson moved from left field to pitch scoreless frames before Pyne delivered his decisive home run.

Associate Head Coach Ben Wolgamot said, “I think the way our bullpen pitched, especially those last five and two-thirds. The offense is obviously going to get the recognition because it’s 12 runs, 19 hits. Guys came up with big hits when it mattered, and Drew and Hayden made pitches.”

Looking ahead, Troy will play at New Orleans on Tuesday before returning home for a weekend series against Louisiana.
