Poppell and Crane lead Troy in opening round of Memphis Intercollegiate

Lee Poppell and Thomas Crane finished under par on the first day of the Memphis Intercollegiate at Colonial Country Club, with Troy University’s men’s golf team holding seventh place going into Tuesday’s final round, according to a Mar. 30 update.

The tournament is significant for Troy as it features strong competition, with Memphis being the only team under par after shooting eight-under. The Tigers are ahead by sixteen shots over Eastern Kentucky, while Troy sits seven shots behind second place.

Poppell recorded his twelfth under-par round this season by shooting one-under in the afternoon after a five-over morning session. He is tied for twenty-second individually. Lawton Emblom and Pablo Gracia are tied for thirtieth, each posting rounds of seventy-three and seventy-six. Emblom made two birdies in each round, while Gracia finished with five birdies across both rounds.

Crane rebounded from an eight-over eighty in his first round to shoot a two-under seventy in the afternoon, marking his sixth under-par round this year and moving him into a tie for thirty-third place. Haston Emblom ended his day with three birdies and is tied for thirty-ninth. Pierce Becker stands tied at fifty-third, while Landon Noble is in fifty-seventh position.

Troy will compete alongside Lipscomb and Dayton during Tuesday’s final round, starting from the eighth hole as part of a shotgun start format.

Team standings after Monday list Memphis leading with scores of 280-288–568 followed by Eastern Kentucky at 295-289–584. Troy holds seventh place at 299-292–591.
