Troy University’s women’s tennis team lost a close match to North Alabama, 4-3, after four hours of play in Florence, Alabama. The match featured four singles contests that went to three sets.
In doubles action, Troy’s Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Guirguis secured a win on Court 1 with a 6-2 score. North Alabama responded by winning on Court 2. On Court 3, Leena Metwally and Alexia Zarate were defeated in a tiebreaker, giving the Lions the doubles point.
In singles competition, Troy picked up points from Guirguis and Zarate. Zarate won her match in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Valeriia Avdeeva added another point for Troy by winning on Court 3 after dropping the first set.
The outcome was decided on Court 2 between Metwally and Emma Ansorge of North Alabama. Metwally took the first set 6-4 while Ansorge claimed the second by the same score. In the third set, Metwally led 5-3 before Ansorge won four consecutive games to secure both her individual victory and the overall win for North Alabama.
After this result, Troy’s record stands at 4-6 while North Alabama improves to 9-2.
