Four members of the Troy Trojans baseball team have received Preseason All-Sun Belt honors from Perfect Game. First baseman Blake Cavill was named the league’s Preseason Player of the Year, and outfielder Steven Meier, catcher Jimmy Janicki, and shortstop Aaron Piasecki were also included on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team.
Cavill had a standout season after transferring from Western Kentucky. He tied a Troy program record with 65 walks, ranking third nationally, and his .513 on-base percentage was 13th in the country. Cavill led the Trojans with a .320 batting average and finished third in the Sun Belt Conference with a 1.078 OPS. He also recorded 12 doubles, 11 home runs, and 50 RBIs.
Meier returns to Troy after starting 57 games last season following his transfer from Old Dominion. He posted a .300 batting average with an on-base percentage of .447 and a slugging percentage of .507. Meier hit 16 doubles and eight home runs while driving in 42 runs. He set a Troy single-season record by being hit by pitches 29 times and ranked second in the conference with 24 stolen bases.
Janicki is entering his sophomore year after being recognized as Perfect Game’s No. 35 overall prospect for the 2027 MLB Draft. In his freshman year, he batted .280 overall and led the team during conference play with a .327 average. Janicki matched Troy’s freshman record with 12 doubles, added two home runs, and drove in 32 runs. After playing primarily at third base last season, he is expected to take on more catching duties this year.
Piasecki joins Troy for his senior season after hitting .318 as Central Michigan’s leadoff hitter last year. The left-handed infielder collected 67 hits, including 15 doubles, three triples, three home runs, along with 33 RBIs and stealing 14 bases. During summer play in the Northwoods League, Piasecki led all hitters with a .406 average while drawing more walks than strikeouts.
Troy will begin its season on February 13-15 with a three-game series at Mercer.
