FOIA Request to Troy University Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Wiregrass Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Troy University. This request seeks detailed information about the university’s current Chinese National students, their scholarships, and related policies.
The request specifically asks for documents or lists that identify all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected, we have requested the total number of such students broken down by department. Additionally, we seek information regarding the scholarships these students receive, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
Furthermore, our inquiry extends to identifying recipients of any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council. We have also requested any university policies or procedures in place to monitor students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard the institution’s intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of Wiregrass Times and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media, we emphasize that access to public records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.
