As part of our commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at Wiregrass Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to George C Wallace Community College-Dothan. This request seeks comprehensive information concerning the enrollment and scholarship details of Chinese National students at the institution.
The specific requests made under the Alabama Open Records Law § 36-12-40 et seq. include:
1. Documentation or lists identifying all current students who are Chinese Nationals, along with their respective departments of study. If privacy concerns arise, we requested a total count of these students broken down by department.
2. Details regarding scholarships awarded to current Chinese National students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.
3. A list of recipients for any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council that may not be covered in the previous request. If this information overlaps with prior data, we asked for clarification on which scholarships fulfill this criterion.
4. Policies or procedures outlining how the university safeguards its Intellectual Property and other confidential information from all students, including those who are Chinese Nationals.
This request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws to enhance public understanding of government actions. As members of the media, we emphasize that access to such records is crucial for holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency within our community.
We look forward to receiving a response from George C Wallace Community College-Dothan and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments related to this inquiry.
