Florida women’s tennis defeats Troy University in Gainesville

Troy University’s women’s tennis team was defeated 4-0 by No. 24-ranked Florida on Friday morning in Gainesville.

Florida secured the doubles point after winning matches on Courts 1 and 2. Troy’s Maria Guirguis and Valeriia Avdeeva managed to win two games against Florida’s Xinyi Nong and Niki Daubnerova on Court 1 before falling 6-2. On Court 2, Florida’s Valery Gynina and Brooke Black won 6-0 over Sama Hindawy and Emilia Namyslo of Troy. The third doubles match was unfinished, with Florida leading.

In singles play, the Gators earned victories in straight sets on Courts 4, 5, and 6 to clinch the match. Brooke Black defeated Alexia Zarate (6-2, 6-1), Xinyi Nong overcame Sama Hindawy (6-2, 6-0), and Nikola Daubnerova beat Emilia Namyslo (6-2, 6-1). The remaining singles matches were left unfinished once the overall result was decided. On Court 1, Maria Guirguis trailed Valery Gynina 6-2, 5-4 when play stopped.

Troy will next host Kennesaw State at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on Wednesday with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
