TROY, Ala. – Colby Frieda, a right-handed pitcher from Troy University, has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Mets. Frieda, originally from St. John’s, Florida, played one season with the Trojans after transferring from Kentucky. During his time at Troy, he made 25 appearances out of the bullpen in 2025 and recorded a 3-2 record with four saves.
“Colby coming to Troy and improving enough to sign with the Mets is such a tribute to his determination,” head coach Skylar Meade stated. “He wanted to put himself into this position, and he earned it. The Mets will be thrilled with him as he starts his journey very soon.”
Frieda pitched 45.1 innings where he struck out 53 batters and issued only 19 walks while limiting opponents to a .224 batting average. He ranked ninth in the Sun Belt Conference for strikeouts per nine innings.
He becomes the fifth member of the 2025 Trojans team to advance to professional baseball ranks this year. Other players joining professional teams include Brooks Bryan (Kansas City Royals), Noah Edders (Chicago Cubs), Jay Dill (Athletics), and Adam Falinski (Minnesota Twins). This marks Troy’s most players moving on to professional baseball since 2007.
